Meal Planning Monday

Meal Planning Monday

So yet another week has gone by the sun came a few times but we are still a little confused whether to have salads or soups. I have decided this week to get the slow cooker out one day as I used to loved using this but really only ever seem to do stew in it. As I type this, the sun is shining over the screen (note to self need to clean screen!) but … Read entire article »

Meal Planning Monday – Bex’s Birthday Week

Last week went quite well to plan, as it was half term I chopped and changed a bit. We were lucky enough to of been sent a gorgeous hamper from Capricorn Goats Cheese so the weekend got a change around whilst we made tarts and risotto with our ingredients. This week is Bex’s birthday, 13 tomorrow!!! So she has chosen her birthday meal (good choice), veggie burgers for later on in the week and Homemade pizza as it was such a success last week. I am een going to make a gluten free version so I don’t feel left out!!! So here is what we will be eating this week: Monday: Spicy turkey and pear burgers with potato wedges and salad. Tuesday: Bex’s choice, Easy chicken kebab, served in tortilla wraps (more popular the … Read entire article »

Baking has swept the U.K by storm this year. Baking products has seen a huge increase in sales and you can see why. Simple pleasures – Late Summer

Late Summer, well the beginning of September so I assume we can call it that! I love this time of year, but equally don’t like it as it is the beginning of another school year. Though for now, for a few more days I won’t think about that quite yet. So the simple pleasures for now has to be picking berries. From a little girl to now I have always enjoyed going out and collecting those beautiful coloured berries. Okay you might get a little bit scratched, your hands and especially nails will look a bit purple for a day or so but………. Blackberries being mine and the children’s favourite can be transformed into beautiful coloured goodies to eat. We made ‘Blackberry and Apple Muffins‘, we made ours gluten free by swapping the flour, … Read entire article »

Party on

I planned to have a ‘I am still 39′ party the weekend before my birthday. As we were coming home from holiday that day it was a bit tricky! Being me, I didn’t want my party a couple of days after my birthday as I would spend my actual birthday stressing what I had to get done. So Oscar’s party and then birthday came first and now this weekend it is my turn. I am sure I have a little Italian in me as my nature is to feed people. Oh I looked at good old Marks and Spencer but the inner me said no. I won’t go mega mad but I will make sure everyone has some yummy food made mostly by my fair hands. My children keep saying “It’s your party Mum, … Read entire article »

Handy things for camping trips or days out

Camping seems very in this year more than last. We might go for a night or two, but will stay here in Cornwall. So far this year the garden is as far as we have ventured. Which may be just as well, as to hammer in the pegs I used a handy dog bone, quite effective I would like to add. Of course a dog bone is obviously a handy thing to have but I thought the following would be pretty good too. So, when we stayed in a holiday cottage in Wales , I know not a tent, me being gluten free I took some of my cornflakes in a OXO POP container. Whilst taking them out one morning I thought how fantastically handy they would be to keep food fresh, dry … Read entire article »

Fantastic chop and change rice salad recipe

As my sister blew my trumpet for me being a good cook, I thought I would follow on with my popular rice salad recipe. Which is a brilliant bring a plate recipe too, which Heather mentions and I am a big fan of a bring a plate party. This is a recipe which you can alter quantities and ingredients to your hearts content. So basically the key ingredients are: Rice use quantity for the amount of people you are hoping to feed. By the fact I had run out of long grain rice a few months ago I had to use basmati rice which actually works even better, but you choose. I love brown rice too, but not all love it. Key flavours are: The zest and juice of 1-2 lemons Chopped herbs, my favourite for this are … Read entire article »

Picnics past, present & future

My plan for National Picnic week went a bit, well wrong, my recipes never happened and my great places to picnic list never well got typed. That is the way it goes sometimes and enough hours in the day, we all know if only more. So my Sunday waffle is going to be some of my favourite picnic’s etc. Who remembers picnic’s when they were younger, I always think picnic’s do really create happy memories. Whether you go away from the house (not always though) you have nice things to eat or they just taste nicer as your on a picnic. Simple picnics on summer holidays, weren’t the summer holidays always sunny when you were younger. Henrietta park in Bath, next to the climbing tree. Perfect, my Mum taking us, that is my sister … Read entire article »

Yummy and easy eats for picnic’s

Click here to read my easy picnic food review Who will admit to in the past putting off going for a picnic because it is too much hassle. Hand waving madly in air here !!! Who again will admit to waking up to a sunny day, not wanting to go to the shops but not having much in to take on a picnic ? Again hand waving madly here. So now I make sure I have rolls in the freezer, easy to take drinks, something to make a into a gluten free meal for me (gluten free bread makes rubbish sandwiches) and well I nearly always have fruit and salad in the house. To be honest, picnic food the simpler it is the better, and despite in my romantic mind the idea of having … Read entire article »
