It was great, everything was relaxed and easy. The gas behaved itself, not sure why I was worried about that but most of all Oz and I had loads of fun. The tent went up with no swearing (!), the campsite was lovely. We camped in the open field so only a few tents there (perfect), the loo’s were clean and I only queued the once!!! The shower was slightly less than powerful and I realised my mistake of lathering (!) all of myself up only to be faced by how to rinse it all off!!!
Bacon sandwiches for breakfast, though slightly wronged by the fact that we looked out on pigs in the fields belonging to next doors organic farms, who did deliver bacon (!), eggs, fresh bread and veg by no less than a donkey to your door if ordered. There were two streams to paddle in and one with an obliging bridge to play Pooh sticks in. 10 minutes lovely walk to the beach, where our first afternoon was spent just rock pooling and chatting whilst the rest of the holiday makers stayed at the top of the beach creating a mass of colour not having a clue what they were missing just a five minutes trek away!!!
Home for as planned the ‘Cowboy casserole’ ours was just a simple mix of sausages cooked (sorry pigs again!) then added some chopped onion, 2 cloves of garlic, chilli powder, black pepper, a tin of beans and a slug of passata left us with a great campers supper. Deemed delicious and a must make again by Oscar and I would agree.
Phone calls home from a telephone box as there was no signal at all on my phone. You forget how heavy those doors on the old-fashioned telephone boxes are and I had to smile to myself remembering the all too embarrassing phone calls I had made from them in my teen years (for another post maybe!). Hot drinks and lots of games with the light of the ‘Tiddy lamp’ and to a slightly uncomfortable night but only after chatting under torch-light!
The next day was a bit grey so it was games of pooh sticks, a few games with the Ballonzoon, lunch, more games but inside as it was raining quite heavily. Then off for a walk to the beach, crazy golf and a crazy game was had, more games on the beach including me trying to work out how to use this handglider launcher toy thing, sometimes I really am a bit thick!!! Finally dining out a walk home (campsite), hot drinks and eating fudge outside seeing the last of the light disappear whilst playing ‘Pass the Pigs’ (love that game & sorry pigs again!) then to bed.
The next day, the day of leaving was raining (of course) so we packed our stuff mostly away, went for a walk in the woods, gathered sticks for loads of ‘Pooh Stick’ races then time to put the tent away in somewhat wet and windy conditions.
But it was SO much enjoyed Oz and I may pencil in another trip before the winter comes.
