Am I a soppy Mum?

Am I a soppy Mum?

So Oscar is away for the week. He is off on his first ever residential and the first time he has been away from home for more than an overnight sleepover. I bravely didn’t cry when they drove off in the coach (honest) and when I gave him a hug goodbye (I love the way he is more than happy to hug me in front of all his friends!) I swallowed hard as not to blub!!! As … Read entire article »

The loveliest paper aeroplane

The loveliest paper aeroplane

When I was getting in the washing yesterday a little ‘Mum’ call was followed by a paper aeroplane winging its way from Oscar bedroom window. Playing paper aeroplanes and making them of course is rather liked in this house. In fact I have been really impressed at how some of them turn out. But this aeroplane that flew out was my favourite yet. It wasn’t made with pretty paper like these… But it had a lovely note … Read entire article »

A smile of achievement

A smile of achievement

When your children are little you often see these smiles of achievement.  In fact quite often daily. Building a brick tower, fitting a shape through a hole and bigger stuff like taking their first steps. As they grow up you don’t so often see these smiles, not because they are not achieving things but because maybe they expect more from themselves. Perhaps as adults we do things we should be smiling at and just brush it … Read entire article »

Simple pleasures – Late Summer

Late Summer, well the beginning of September so I assume we can call it that! I love this time of year, but equally don’t like it as it is the beginning of another school year. Though for now, for a few more days I won’t think about that quite yet. So the simple pleasures for now has to be picking berries. From a little girl to now I have always enjoyed going out and collecting those beautiful coloured berries. Okay you might get a little bit scratched, your hands and especially nails will look a bit purple for a day or so but………. Blackberries being mine and the children’s favourite can be transformed into beautiful coloured goodies to eat. We made ‘Blackberry and Apple Muffins‘, we made ours gluten free by swapping the flour, … Read entire article »

Ozzie’s Best Burgers

Ozzie’s Best Burgers

Oscar being a SpongeBob fan likes the thought of crabby patties, without the crab! So for the last year or so, Oscar has been chief burger maker in the house. All the trimmings Oscar and I prepare together when the burgers are cooking. Burgers are so easy to make, I  am sure now Oscar won’t ever buy burgers from a packet when he is older. Oscar likes his burgers with all the trimmings, so here is what you … Read entire article »

Good times

So I have just unpacked my case from my trip to Bath, taking just Bex and leaving Oscar at home to make sure his Dad behaved. Though I might add I did take out the washing as we came back Wednesday night. I am not quite that slack but yes a little slack on unpacking the rest!!! Anyway it was great to have some one to one time with Bex. Oscar had a fab time with his Dad and I know it did both of them good too. It was lovely to catch up with family and friends. Great to catch up with my oldest (not in years) best friend. Even though she visited me with her family last week it was great to meet up just the two of us in the … Read entire article »

Off to Bath

Bex and I are off to Bath for four nights today. Although I am looking forward to it, I am equally not as I am leaving Oscar behind. Oscar being more quiet than Bex, I know he will be happier staying at home and hanging out with his Dad. Though a climb into my bed last night and a “Do you have to go?” makes me typing this feeling worse than I probably was going too. Keeping everyone happy is always a hard balancing act isn’t it. I will leave miserable looking dogs and not forgetting my lovely husband (!) had to say that. A son who will miss his cuddles, but I will have a happy daughter who can’t wait to see her Uncle, Auntie and cousins. Of course I don’t mention … Read entire article »

Monday Mutters

Oooh lovely it’s a sunny Monday morning. Even better we are still in the Summer holidays so Monday morning aren’t so bad. School term Mondays I really do not like, it is the start of ‘what is going to happen this week?’ Then I look forward to Friday 3.40 from precisely Monday 8.15, with a few breathers in between. Anyway let’s not think about that now. This week is a busy week, I have loads of catching up to do before Saturday when I go to stay at my brothers with Bex until Weds evening. Oz is staying at home to have some one to one time with his Dad and he doesn’t do ‘family’ like Bex does. As much as he loves the rest of his family and more so I know … Read entire article »

Left overs nearly finished

Oh did I over estimate my friends appetites, mmm just a bit. But let me tell you left overs are jolly tasty and you look in the fridge and ‘Hey Presto’ there is something gorgeous and yummy to eat. Note to self 1. When inviting people around after eight most have already eaten. Note to self 2. You don’t need to provide them with more than they would eat for there  lunch, dinner and supper. Note to self 3. You don’t need to spend the best part of a day and a little more to prepare. Note to self 4. Remember which mini quiches (so cute) and mini paper wrapped quiches (even cuter and no pastry) are the ones with bacon in especially when you have vegetarian guests. Note to self 5. When you lovingly make … Read entire article »
