We love oats here, they are full of goodness and despite the gluten-free version is SO much more expensive, outcome wise with recipes you still have the same results.
Flapjacks and my spiced oat cookie cakes are a favorite here. In the warmer weather I loved overnight oats but without a microwave to warm them up they are a little bit brrr for this time of year. So I thought I give baked oats a whirl. This is my first flavour mixture. I thought I would keep it more basic but tasty. As these were a hit I will probably add some more fruity recipes in the future.
But this was a good starting recipe. I am in need of more smaller sized suitable dishes. My ceramic dishes are all a bit too large so the baked oats ended a little more shallow than I would like but I am sure equally delicious. Our oven is also playing games (or needs its nozzles cleaned properly!) so it is much hotter on one side, so please excuse the slightly tinged look on the left side!
I made these gluten and dairy free and added ground almonds for extra goodness and protein. The orange zest, honey and spices give a wonderful warm flavour, perfect for a cold morning.
This of course is equally as nice as a slice with a cup of tea. Think a soft cake like flapjack with a hint of porridge. I think this served warm straight out the oven will make a very welcome breakfast. Serve on its own, in a bowl with milk over it, yogurt if you are not dairy free or I think some lovely fruit compote would be perfect.
